We made great time compared to what google maps said. It was also a lot more scenic of a drive than I remember. We took 290W through Fredricksburg, then out to I-10W all the way to El Paso!
We were also pretty impressed with ourselves at how frugally we made it to the other side of the state! A made us sandwiches and snacks for the trip and Ruby (my Ford Focus) only cost us $70 in gas for the whole trip!
We stopped every hour or so at rest stops & scenic overlooks to stretch A's back out. For the most part, it was 85mph and desolation until we hit "official west Texas" and the A's beloved mountains.
We also took a short break from our awesome karaoke practice to send a shout out to all of the Michiganians we know as we passed Michigan Flats, TX. As you can see, it is a verdant break in the dusty brown scenery of the desert. I have no idea how the people of Michigan Flats created an orchard in the middle of the desert, but it broke up the monotony a bit and reminded me of home!
